HC Deb 16 July 1992 vol 211 cc1026-7W
Mr. McMaster

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what consideration he has recently given to giving enterprise zone status to any part of Renfrew district; and what criteria he applied in reaching his conclusions.

Mr. Stewart

[holding answer 11 June 1992]: Approval has recently been secured for an enterprise zone in Lanarkshire because of the sudden and severe worsening of the economic situation there. This reflects Government policy for enterprise zones which is that no new zones will be created except in very exceptional circumstances. Such circumstances do not bear upon Renfrew district which has the benefit of development area status and the full range of development incentives available from my Department and from Renfrewshire Enterprise.
