§ Mr. David HuntIn 1991–92 the average number of staff employed by my Department was 2,399, at a total pay cost of some £40 million. In 1969–70 the average number of staff in post was 766: the total pay cost cannot be disaggregated from departmental running costs for this period.
The staff numbers are not directly comparable due to machinery of Government changes which have occurred in the intervening period.
