§ Mr. Simon CoombsTo ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will make a statement on the progress of the 1991 census.
§ Mr. SackvilleCounts of the population present on census night were published in the preliminary reports in July 1991. These provisional figures were obtained from summaries prepared by the local field staff.
Computer processed results from the 1991 census are being processed on a county-by-county (England and Wales) or region-by-region (Scotland) basis, and monitors containing summary statistics on the census topics for which answers were fully processed have been published for 11 counties and one Scottish region.
"Census Newsletter, No. 22," which is due to be published during July. will contain the planned 674W publication dates for the remaining monitors. A copy will be placed in the Library. The newsletter will also include a timetable for the availability and publication of the other main products, such as the small area statistics, county reports and national reports, and reports on specific census topics. There are two small changes from the timetable given in my reply to the hon. Member for Sherwood (Mr. Tipping) on 18 June at column 672. The last county monitor is now scheduled to be published in October, and the last small area statistics released in November.
§ Mr. Simon CoombsTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what was the overall percentage of forms returned under the 1991 census.
§ Mr. SackvilleThe census validation survey will report on census coverage later this year. This work will be published in the autumn.
