asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will publish any evidence they have received concerning deforestation in the Tibetan Autonomous Region, and whether they have any proof of the authorities' claim that they are now engaged in tree-planting and contour-protection programmes.

Although some impressive tree-planting and contour-protection work is being carried out in China, and in Tibet, there are many reports of excessive tree felling in Eastern Tibet. Any environmental degradation of this kind is a matter for serious concern.
