To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people were waiting for special quota vouchers in(a) India, (b) east Africa and (c) the rest of the world in (i) May 1991 and (ii) December 1991; when those issued with vouchers on those dates had applied; how many vouchers were issued in (1) India, (2) east Africa and (3) the rest of the world in (A) 1991 and (B) the first quarter of 1992; when those applying can now expect to receive vouchers; and how many applicants there were for vouchers in (v) India, (w) east Africa and (x) the rest of the world in (y) 1991 and (z) the first half of 1992.

The Home Office has completed a number of relocation reviews as part of the Government's programme to move civil service posts away from London and the south-east. Plans are well advanced for relocation of the prison service headquarters to Derby in 1993–95, the directorate of telecommunications headquarters to Ruddington—near Nottingham—in 1992 and accounts branch to Merseyside in 1991–92—which involve over 1,600 posts moving from the south-east and others from elsewhere in the country. The police national computer organisation is looking at relocation as part of a wider review. The Home Office keeps under review the location of work in accordance with central guidelines.
