To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what assessment he has made of the number of civil servants in his Department who could be relocated to provincial centres as part of the policy of devolving and decentralising Government Departments.

During 1991, 27 people were recommended for deportation by the courts with no custodial sentence and six during the first half of 1992. The other information requested is not collected centrally and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
