HC Deb 13 July 1992 vol 211 c409W
Mr. Adley

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what steps he is taking to encourage the railway preservation movement; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Freeman

The railway preservation movement has been growing in strength and importance. The Government acknowledge the movement's contribution to the railway heritage. The Department made 10 light railway orders for steam railway lines in 1991 and expects to determine perhaps a further six in 1992. We welcome this evidence that the movement is thriving.
