Why the report of the Chief Inspector of Prisons on Aylesbury Young Offenders Institution, based on the inspection which took place between 8th and 12th July 1991, was not published until 25th June 1992.
The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)A backlog of work with inspection reports delayed the preparation of detailed advice until March 1992. Ministers considered the proposed response after the general election campaign. Publication was approved on 19th May and took place on 25th June. None of this delay prevented immediate measures being taken on those recommendations which needed urgent action. Difficulties arising from the backlog of reports have been overcome. The Director General of the Prison Service is giving priority to securing earlier publication.
