HC Deb 13 July 1992 vol 211 c427W
Mr. Pike

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will list the charitable donations for the last five years arising from funds of intestate deceased residents of the county palatine.

Mr. Waldegrave

A list of charitable donations made by the Duchy over the last five years would run to several hundred items.

Donations made from the duchy benevolent fund during the last five years are as follows:

£
1987 61,063
1988 81,122
1989 99,805
1990 119,124
1991 129,653
1992 178,814
1Up to 30 June 1992.

The duchy's policy has been not to reveal the identity of a recipient or the amount given. This is the usual policy of charitable foundations. However, the duchy would of course have no objection to a recipient giving this information.

Substantial amounts have been given to educational establishments, including universities, in the county palatine; to ecclesiastical causes, to the elderly and infirm and various youth projects.

Many small donations have also been made, usually after seeking local advice, to individuals or to causes worthy of assistance.
