HL Deb 06 July 1992 vol 538 c64WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the "necessary credibility" referred to by Mr. Tom King on BBC Nine o'Clock News on 2nd February 1992 could now be achieved by a token or nominal deployment of submarine nuclear missiles.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Defence (Viscount Cranborne)

It remains our policy to deploy only the minimum nuclear deterrent required for our security needs. Deterrence would not be served by the deployment of only a token capability.
