HL Deb 23 January 1992 vol 534 c36WA
Lord Stallard

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many sentenced persons have been transferred, permanently, to Northern Ireland prisons since the advent of the revised criteria governing transfer to Northern Ireland; what category those transferred were in at the time of transfer; what offences they had been sentenced for and the length of sentence in each case; how much of their sentence those transferred had served prior to transfer; how many applications for transfer each of those had made prior to being granted transfer; and why previous applications had been turned down.

Earl Ferrers

Since the introduction of the revised criteria on 23rd June 1989, 20 prisoners have been permanently transferred from prisons in England and Wales to Northern Ireland to serve their sentences. Two other prisoners have had their transfer requests approved and are awaiting transfer. I shall write to the noble Lord with the other information which he has requested as soon as it has been collated.
