HL Deb 13 January 1992 vol 534 cc1-2WA
Lord Judd

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is their policy towards the new "Immediate Resource Account" of the World Food Programme and what contribution they intend to make.

Lord Cavendish of Furness

We welcome the establishment of an Immediate Response Account within the framework of the International Emergency Food Reserve, which is administered by the World Food Programme (WFP). This will enable the programme to react more quickly to the immediate food needs of disaster victims. An appeal for contributions is expected to issue soon from the Executive Director of the WFP, and a possible UK contribution will be considered as part of our 1992 pledge to the World Food Programme.
