HL Deb 27 February 1992 vol 536 cc13-4WA
Lord McIntosh of Haringey

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What they estimate would be the cost in the financial year 1992–93 of increasing the applicable amounts for income-related benefits by 63 pence per adult per week.

Lord Henley

The estimated cost of this measure is given in the table.

Benefit Cost (£ Million)
Income Support 195
Community Charge Benefit 20
Housing Benefit 45
Family Credit 20
Total 275

Source: Data drawn from the 1987–89 Family Expenditure Surveys and the 1990 Annual Statistical Enquiry, modelled at 1992–93 prices and benefit levels.

Note:

1. Because of rounding, the figures do not sum.

2. In addition, it is estimated that a similar increase in Disability Working Allowance would cost less than £5 million.
