HL Deb 19 February 1992 vol 535 c52WA
Lord Williams of Elvel

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will ensure that the county archives of Powys are maintained in their present form and location even if Powys itself disappears under present or future proposals for the reorganisation of local government in Wales.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Baroness Trumpington)

My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Wales attaches great importance to the effective provision and maintenance of the local government archives service in Powys and throughout Wales. He is considering views expressed by those concerned with the archives in response to his proposals for local government reorganisation and will take them and the concern expressed by the noble Lord into account in reaching his decisions. Any implications for the archives service of any local government reorganisation will be the subject of further consideration with the relevant bodies.
