§ Mrs. ChalkerWe seek the earliest possible end to the fighting in Mozambique and have been encouraged by recent progress in the peace talks in Rome. We are members of the joint verification commission, which was set up to monitor the partial ceasefire agreement of 1 December 1990, and have participated in European Community démarches to both parties encouraging them to reach early agreement. In addition to regular bilateral contact with the Mozambican Government, we have urged RENAMO to adhere to the partial ceasefire and reach an early comprehensive settlement.
