HL Deb 04 February 1992 vol 535 cc7-8WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will seek to introduce legislation providing that no person can be held in custody on remand for more than six years.

Viscount Astor

The Prosecution of Offences Act 1985 already prescribes custody time limits for people awaiting the completion of specified stages of criminal proceedings and for extensions of time limits if courts are satisfied that there is good and sufficient cause for doing so.
