HC Deb 03 February 1992 vol 203 c28W
Mr. McGrady

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what additional arrangements will be made urgently to resolve the number of outstanding appeals in respect of supplementary benefit.

Mr. Hanley

Within the last few months there have been around 22,000 appeals against the award of supplementary benefit, all of them made outside the normal time limit for appeal. The president of the Independent Appeal Tribunal Service is responsible for hearing appeals and he has made arrangements to have them passed to the chairmen for independent ajudication at additional sessions.
