HL Deb 03 February 1992 vol 535 cc3-4WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the procedure used in the case of a baby recently born at King's College Hospital, London, which involved 25 transfusions into her abdominal cavity while she was in the womb, were approved by the relevant Research Ethics Committee, and if so on what grounds.

Baroness Hooper

I understand the treatmentin utero of a baby at King's College Hospital was not part of a controlled research project requiring the approval of the Research Ethics Committee, but was therapeutic treatment for the baby.
