Mr. Cryer

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many crimes were solved by allocation to known criminals serving prison sentences by the West Yorkshire police force in 1991; and what was the percentage of crimes detected for the year other than by allocation.

Mr. Jack

[holding answer 14 December 1992]: The available information for 1991 shows that there were 15,280 offences cleared up in West Yorkshire by interview of convicted offenders in custody. Eighty one per cent. of offences were cleared up by methods other than allocations.
