Mr. Michael

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, pursuant to his answer of 9 December,Official Report, column 675, if he will list the sponsors of the Security Council resolution 794 and state for each sponsor (a) the nature and type of assistance that country is giving to the implementation of resolution 794, (b) the type of humanitarian and development aid that country is providing and (c) the specific regions of Somalia in which that country is actively involved.

Security Council resolution 794 had no sponsors. It was submitted as a presidency text with the agreement of the members of the Security Council.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the non-governmental organisations assisted by the British Government to provide humanitarian and development aid to Somalia in each of the last five years and for each organisation state whether it is working(a) in the north, (b) in the south or (c) in both.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list every organisation through which cash from the British Government has been channelled for Somalia together with(a) in each case the sum of money agreed for each of the years 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992, (b) the sum paid out to each organisation in each of the past 24 months and (c) the range of aid or development project each organisation is helping to provide.

[holding answer 11 December 1992]: The information the hon. Member has requested is not available for all of the last four years. Information on commitments of Britain's humanitarian assistance to Somalia by month, implementing agency and region is available for 1991 and 1992 has been placed in the Libraries of the House. Information on disbursements of bilateral development assistance to Somalia in 1989, 1990 and 1991 by project has been placed in the House Libraries. These projects were implemented under bilateral aid agreements between Her Majesty's Government and the Government of Somalia. The ODA was responsible for the administration of all funds disbursed.
