To ask the President of the Board of Trade when he expects to provide a substantive answer to the question of 22 May from the hon. Member for Newport, West concerning military to civil industrial conversion.

[holding answer 23 October 1992]: The meeting confirmed that the conversion of military plants in eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union may be seen as an end in itself, but where there are no commercial means to achieve it is not of direct interest to my Department.
