HC Deb 16 December 1992 vol 216 c257W
Mr. Cox

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what has been the amount of financial aid given to Sudan in each of the last three years; and for what assistance or projects this aid has been spent.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The table shows bilateral development and humanitarian aid to Sudan for financial years 1989–90, 1990–91 and 1991–92. In January 1991 British bilateral development assistance to Sudan was terminated for political and economic reasons including Sudan's record on human rights. There was, however, some residual expenditure in 1991–92.

British aid to Sudan

1989–90 1990–91 1991–92

Humanitarian assistance 7,675 8,281 14,423
