HC Deb 01 December 1992 vol 215 c103W
Mr. Sproat

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what progress he has made in achieving the target of a reduction of 1.5 per cent. in his Department's running costs for the present financial year, in the first half of this financial year; and what specifically has been saved, by what means and in what areas of his responsibility.

Mr. Nelson

The 1992–93 running costs limit for the Treasury already takes account of planned efficiency savings of 1.6 per cent. of some £0.9 million. The main areas for efficiency savings are staff savings on support services and improved purchasing procedure. Savings in the year to date on the purchase of a wide range of goods and services amount to some £420,000.
