HC Deb 01 December 1992 vol 215 c103W
Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what criteria he used in proposing to increase the minimum purchase by parents, guardians, or grandparents of premium bonds for children; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nelson

The minimum purchase level of national savings products is kept under review. The minimum purchase level for premium bonds was raised to £100 in July 1989, except for purchases on behalf of children, which remained at £10. I have decided that, given the need to achieve running costs savings in the 1992 public expenditure survey, these thresholds should be brought into line.
