What percentage of defendants remanded in custody by magistrates' courts are subsequently acquitted (a) in the magistrates' court, (b) in the Crown Court and (c) in total.

From 1990 figures, it is estimated that about 17 per cent. of defendants who are remanded in custody by magistrates' courts are subsequently acquitted, about 13 per cent. at the magistrates' court and about 5 per cent. at the Crown Court.
