§ Dr. ReidTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what costs have been incurred by the British embassy in Washington DC in the last year in the process of lobbying the United States Congress on the question of nuclear testing; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Garel-JonesLobbying congressmen on a wide range of issues is a routine activity for the embassy in Washington. It is not practical to extrapolate with precision the costs of lobbying Congress on this specific issue from those of the overall activities of the embassy. But within the context of the embassy's work the time taken to do so was minimal, and the costs are likely to have been similarly minimal.
