HL Deb 22 October 1991 vol 531 c130WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What information they have on the numbers of internally displaced persons and refugees arising from the conflict in Yugoslavia; and what amounts of humanitarian aid have reached or will soon reach those in acute need.

The Earl of Caithness

In the confused situation in Croatia it is not possible to obtain reliable estimates of the numbers of people displaced by the current conflict. The International Committee of the Red Cross is attempting to provide humanitarian assistance, but for the same reason is finding this difficult to achieve. The European Community has committed I million ecu in emergency assistance to Yugoslavia for the purchase of transport and distribution of medicine, medical supplies and essential services to meet humanitarian needs resulting from the present troubles.
