HL Deb 22 October 1991 vol 531 cc129-30WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will list the places in the Soviet Union, outside Moscow, where there is or will soon be, British or other European Community diplomatic or consular representation.

The Earl of Caithness

Since 28th September there has been a British Embassy representative in St. Petersburg. The Government intend to open consulates in the early part of 1992 in St. Petersburg and Kin', subject to the conclusion of agreements with the relevant authorities.

We understand that the representation of other Europe an Community countries in the Soviet Union outside Moscow is now as follows:

Germany

Consulates-General in St. Petersburg, Kiev and Minsk.

France

Consulates-General in St. Petersburg and Kiev.

Italy

Consulate-General in St. Petersburg.

Several of our Community partners are, like us, considering the need for further representation.
