HL Deb 22 October 1991 vol 531 c139WA
Baroness Jeger

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the amount of present government funding of the Institute of Zoology and what is the provision for future financial arrangements.

Baroness Blatch

In April 1989, responsibility for public funding of the Institute of Zoology was transferred from the Department of the Environment to the Department of Education and Science, which now funds it through the Universities Funding Council and the University of London. The transfer was accompanied by an increase in public funding through the UFC in respect of the University of London of £1.3 million in the 1989–90 financial year, £1.4 million in 1990–91 and £1.4 million in 1991–92. The level of funding for the institute is now a matter for the University of London. In addition, the institute received grants from the research councils and the Royal Society of £0.7 million in 1990–91.
