§ Mr. Alan HowarthIn 1979–80 there were some 778,000 students in higher education in Great Britain. As shown in the May White Paper on higher education, Cm 1541, that is projected to rise to 1,221,000 in 1991–92 and to 1,595,000 in 2000–01.
