To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how much limestone pavement has been damaged since the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 came into force in(a) national parks, (b) areas of outstanding natural beauty and (c) elsewhere in England.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many people have been prosecuted in the last 10 years for damaging limestone pavements.

I am not aware of any prosecutions.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has to improve the protection of limestone pavements in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Baldry

We have no such plans. The measures introduced by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 have proved effective.
