HC Deb 21 October 1991 vol 196 c373W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what planning controls his Department is considering for countryside leisure developments, such as(a) new theme parks, (b) hotel and holiday complexes and (c) golf courses, respectively.

Mr. Yeo

As with any other development, proposals for leisure developments in the countryside are subject to planning controls and require planning permission. Planning policy guidance note 17 on sport and recreation published on 25 September this year gives guidance on golf courses and other sporting facilities. Other current guidance from the Department of the Environment is contained in circular 13/79 "Local Government and the Development of Tourism" and Development control policy note 12 "Hotels"—1972. Further advice to local planning authorities on how they should approach applications for tourism developments is to be provided in a later planning policy guidance note.
