§ Mr. CryerTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if, from information presently available to Her Majesty's Government, he will make an estimate of the number of scientists, engineers and technicians that Iraq has devoted to its military nuclear programme; and the resources put into the programme over the past 10 years.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggIt is clear that Iraq has devoted considerable resources to its nuclear weapons development programme, both in terms of manpower and funds. The documents recently discovered by the sixth International Atomic Energy Agency inspection may provide the information necessary to make a firmer estimate. The UN has published the sixth IAEA inspection team's first report—document S/23122 of 8 October—and this is available in the Library of the House.
§ Mr. CryerTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will obtain for his Departmental library a copy of the videocassette and transcript of the programme, "The Other War", on famine in Iraq since the Gulf war, broadcast on Channel 4 on 26 September.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe relevant departments in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office have seen this programme. It would cost more than £150.00 to obtain a copy of the videocassette and transcript for retention. However, a copy could be borrowed from Channel 4 television if required.
