HC Deb 21 October 1991 vol 196 cc432-3W
Mr. McMaster

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will publish a table showing the most recent estimate of expenditure by his Department on accommodating homeless families in temporary or bed-and-breakfast accommodation for(a) Scotland, (b) Wales and (c) England; what proportion of this was expended through local authorities; and if he will make a statement.

Miss Widdecombe

All such expenditure by the Department comprises housing benefit subsidy. It is expended through local authorities. The table shows to the nearest £5,000 the total amounts of subsidy claimed in respect of homeless people in bed and breakfast accommodation, short term leased accommodation and hotel annexes for 1989–90. This is the latest year for which such information is available.

£
Scotland 435,000
