To ask the Secretary of State for Health what have been the number of deaths due to AIDS in each year since 1985.

Reports received by the Public Health Laboratory Service's communicable disease surveillance centre and the communicable disease (Scotland) unit show that the number of deaths due to AIDS in each year from 1985 to 1991 is as follows:

Seventy one deaths occurred earlier than 1985 and 25 deaths have been reported where the year of death is not known.
