HC Deb 16 October 1991 vol 196 c168W
32. Mr. Darling

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what was the trade balance in manufactured goods in(a) Germany and (b) Britain in 1990.

Mr. Sainsbury

Only sections 5 to 8 of the standard international trade classification are included as "manufactured goods". In 1990 the United Kingdom's trade deficit in manufactured goods was £13.7 billion. The Federal Republic of Germany, excluding East Germany, had a surplus of £58.6 billion.
