To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when he expects to appoint the traffic director for London and the traffic commissioners for London as envisaged in the Road Traffic Act 1991; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 14 October 1991]: I hope to announce the appointment of the traffic director for London shortly.

Traffic commissioners are appointed by the Secretary of State under separate legislation with a different role. They license operators of public service and heavy goods vehicles, register local bus services and license local bus services in London.
