§ Mrs. RumboldA major scheme, which will include the construction of a new kitchen and laundry, entry building, visits and reception building and visitors' reception centre, is scheduled to start at Her Majesty's prison Winchester late in the financial year 1992–93. The work should take two to three years to complete and will cost in the region of £11.7 million. The construction of a new staff mess is also scheduled to start in 1992–93 and will cost approximately £750,000. Installation of integral sanitation in all cells at the prison is due to start late in 1991 and work on the final wing should commence in mid-1994.
Further improvements, including the refurbishment of the living accommodation and the provision of a new works department, will follow in later years.
