HL Deb 14 October 1991 vol 531 c90WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What discussions British officials visiting Lhasa in July had with the governor of Drapehi prison; and whether as reported in the press, those officials were told that 89 political prisoners are detained there, not counting those imprisoned for alleged arson or looting during political protest.

The Earl of Caithness

The officials toured Drapehi prison and had talks with the governor who told them that 89 people were in prison for counter-revolutionary offences.
