§ Mr. Douglas HoggHer Majesty's Government, in common with our partners in the European Community, recognised the Republics of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia on 27 August 1991. Permanent diplomatic missions arrived in Tallinn on 4 October 1991, in Riga on 5 October 1991 and Vilnius on 6 October 1991. Accredited ambassadors were appointed to each republic on 8 October and have been in post since. They are now identifying suitable premises for our embassies.
I understand that the British Council is hoping to have a projects officer based in Riga by the end of 1991 to cover Council projects in all three republics.
