HL Deb 28 November 1991 vol 532 c92WA
Baroness Park of Monmouth

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What housing benefit, unemployment benefit or any other social security support is available to mature students.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Social Security (Lord Henley)

Students who study part-time continue to have access to the full range of social security benefits provided the appropriate qualifying conditions are met. Full-time students also have access to some social security benefits but not to unemployment benefit, invalid care allowance, housing benefit and income support. Housing benefit and income support are available to full-time students who fall into certain groups, including lone parents, student couples with dependent children, disabled students and pensioners; partners of students may also qualify for these benefits on behalf of the couple.
