HC Deb 26 November 1991 vol 199 c476W
Mr. Norman Hogg

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects to announce the line of route of the M80 to Haggs; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Canavan

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether a decision has yet been reached on the line of route for the M80 from Haggs to Stepps; and when the work is likely to commence.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

[holding answer 25 November 1991]: Over the past six months the road project team in the Scottish Office roads directorate managing the M80 Stepps-Haggs scheme has been heavily committed in a major review of the strategic trunk road network in north Lanarkshire. This review, together with essential preparatory work for the forthcoming M8 Newbridge to Edinburgh public inquiry, has regrettably delayed the consideration necessary to enable a decision to be made on the line of the M80 between Stepps and Haggs. It is hoped that formal presentations can be made to regional and district councils early in the new year and a decision taken thereafter. The date of a start of the works will depend on the satisfactory completion of the statutory procedures and the availability of funds.
