To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department to whom prison-based special branch operations are accountable.

The direction and control of all police operations is a matter for the chief officer of the police force concerned.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he plans to review the nature of special branch operations in England and Wales, and in particular the accountability of such operations; and if he will make a statement.

I have no plans to do so. The conduct of police operations is a matter for the chief constable of the police force concerned.
