HC Deb 22 November 1991 vol 199 cc323-4W
Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will review the regulations in the code of practice for the housing and care of animals used in scientific procedures relating to the temperatures at which old and new world primates should be kept, to reflect the fact that these groups of primates include species which come from widely different climates.

Mrs. Rumbold

The code of practice, which was based closely on guidelines produced by the Royal Society and the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare, sets out optimal room temperature ranges for new world primates and old world primates used in scientific procedures. These temperature ranges are considered to meet the welfare needs of the animals and we have no plans to review them.
