HC Deb 21 November 1991 vol 199 c275W
Mr. Chris Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many children will lose their entitlement to free school meals under the Social Security (Unemployment, Sickness and Invalidity Benefit) Amendment Regulations 1991; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jack

The amendment to the Social Security (Unemployment. Sickness and Invalidity) Regulations 1983 will not now be made and the current definition of employment will remain unchanged. Consequently those refusing work of up to 24 hours a week will not lose I heir entitlement to unemployment benefit or income support. Thus for those on income support with children, included in this category, there will be no loss of free school meals.
