Mr. Speller

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list the inducements available in the Republic of Ireland for inward industrial investment from overseas and those available in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Leigh

[holding answer 19 November 1991]: Information on this subject is contained in "European Regional Incentives" prepared by the European Policies Research Centre, a copy of which has been placed in the Library.

Mr. Speller

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what representations he has received about firms relocating factories from the United Kingdom to the Republic of Ireland because of lower rates of corporation tax or other inducements.

Mr. Leigh

[holding answer 19 November 1991]: The hon. Member raised this issue with me when we met recently. I have received no other representations concerning relocation of factories from the United Kingdom to the Republic of Ireland because of lower rates of corporation tax or other inducements. My Department does not routinely collect information on such moves.
