§ Mr. WilsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what financial support his Department has given to Strathclyde regional council in the last five years in respect of(a) capital and (b) revenue expenditure on (i) roads and (ii) public transport, and if he will outline projected support for each of the next three years.
§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonCapital allocations for roads and transport are issued as one amount. The total allocations issued to Strathclyde regional council for the last five years and the provisional allocations for the next two years are as follows:

These allocations took account of the overall amounts available nationally and of the detailed expenditure proposals in Strathclyde's transport policies and programmes documents and financial plans.
In addition, capital grant towards expenditure on rail rolling stock contained within those allocations has been paid to Strathclyde as follows: 484W

Funding for all aspects of revenue expenditure on both roads and public transport is a matter for the regional council. Central Government support to local authorities through revenue support grant and non-domestic rate income is given on an unhypothecated basis and support for individual services cannot be separately identified.
