§ Mr. WigleyTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many slaughterhouses there are in England currently up to the EC standard as defined(a) in regulation 355/77 and (b) in regulation 860/90.
§ Mr. MacleanAt present there are 53 red meat and 97 poultry meat slaughterhouses in England which are approved as complying with EC standards. The standards in question are defined in EC directives 64/433 and 71/118 respectively. Regulation 355/77 and its successor, regulation 866/90, relate to financing of investment aimed at improving the processing and marketing of agricultural products. It is a condition of grant aid under these regulations that the project complies with the relevant EC standard.
