Mr. O'Neill

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his answer of 28 March,Official Report, columns 570–1, what is the service rank of the United Kingdom representative at the United Nations military staff committee and the amount and type of administrative support provided to the United Kingdom representative; and whether he has submitted any documents for consideration by the committee in the last four years.

The head of the British defence staff, which is a major general level appointment, acts as the head of the United Kingdom delegation to the United Nations military staff committee. Administrative support for the United Kingdom delegation is provided by members of the British defence staff, Washington. No papers have been submitted to the military staff committee by the United Kingdom delegation in the last four years.
