HC Deb 16 May 1991 vol 191 c270W
Mr. Speller

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list the protective clothing recommended to be worn when dipping sheep when using an organophosphorus compound; and if he will take steps to have this list publicised.

Mr. Forth

Sheep dips are licensed under the Medicines Act 1968. The veterinary medicines directorate issues licences and product labels carry details of any protective clothing to be used. For the majority of organophosphorus sheep dips the basic clothing consists of protective gloves and a faceshield when handling the concentrate. These are usually supplemented by wellington boots and a waterproof apron during the dipping operation. Operator health and safety, including the use of protective clothing, will be covered in a free leaflet to be published in autumn 1991 by the Health and Safety Executive.
